A Day in the Wombat Forest

Discover the magic of the Wombat Forest Region with this relaxed one-day itinerary that blends wine and wilderness.

Morning

9:30 am — Bushwalk in Wombat State Forest
Start your day immersed in nature. Choose one of the scenic trails near Trentham or Lyonville — the Domino Rail Trail is a favourite, with towering eucalypts, fern gullies, and the occasional wallaby sighting.Take your time breathing in the cool forest air and listening to the calls of native birds.

11:00 am — Visit Trentham Falls
Just a short drive from the forest, Trentham Falls is one of Victoria’s longest single-drop waterfalls. Stroll the short track to the viewing platform and feel the mist as water plunges dramatically over ancient basalt cliffs. A perfect photo stop!

Afternoon

12:00 pm — Lunch and Wine Tasting at Wombat Forest Winery
Head to Wombat Forest Vineyard for a relaxed afternoon among the canopy of gum trees. Enjoy a wine tasting flight showcasing small-batch wines — Pinot Noir, Blanc de Noir, and other regional varietals — followed by a seasonal platter featuring local cheeses, charcuterie, and garden produce.
Choose a sunny spot on the deck, the courtyard, or the lawns overlooking the water and forest.

3:30 pm — Relax with a glass and live music (on select weekends)
If you visit on a music day, settle in for an afternoon performance by local artists, glass in hand, soaking in the relaxed atmosphere and forest backdrop.

4:30 pm — Explore local produce and nearby villages
Before heading home, pop into Trentham village for artisan bread from Red Beard /  Sisko Chocolate  Bakery or locally made treats from quaint stores and providores.

**Visit the Trentham Farmers Market (held monthly) for regional produce.
