About Us
Established in 1997 by husband and wife, Brendon and Dee, Wombat Forest Vineyard began its journey with the planting of two varieties of Pinot Noir and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Our vineyard rests on red basalt soil shaped by volcanic activity, with undulating terrain and spring-fed dams that sustain both vines and wildlife. The property, bordered by Springhill Road, sits within a landscape once traversed by gold escorts, mail coaches, and bullock carts. Nearby Denver was part of the historic Lauriston Goldfields, and today the echoes of that history remain in the soil and the spirit of the region.
The vineyard’s northerly aspect and large dam at the base of the valley help draw frost away from the vines through winter and spring, supporting the production of premium cool climate wines.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people as the traditional custodians of this land, whose connection to the Wombat Forest endures.
Brendon and Dee’s family history in the region stretches back to the mid-1800s. The “Early Settler” theme reflects generations who have lived and farmed locally, continuing a tradition of genuine country hospitality. Situated in the beautiful Denver pocket of the Wombat Forest, often called the jewel of the district, the property is surrounded by manna gums, stringy bark, wild cherry, blackwood, and peppermint.
Three spring-fed dams, stands of native trees, and abundant wildlife… from echidnas and koalas to yellow robins, kookaburras, and wedge-tailed eagles, make the setting as rich in life as it is in character.
Every bottle of wine is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail. An extended ripening period enhances fruit flavour and creates subtle, balanced tannins. All reds are aged in French oak barrels, producing elegant, award-winning wines. The vineyard’s soil varies from volcanic on the hills to sedimentary in the valley, lending distinctive character to each varietal.
Nearly three decades on, Brendon and Dee continue to welcome visitors with warmth and authenticity.
The winery, tasting rooms, and event spaces sit atop a ridge overlooking the valley, framed by majestic views of the Wombat Forest — a natural backdrop for every occasion.
